The Pool Hall

Escape,
From a day of work,
A beer in one hand,
And a cue in another.
I stand not contemplating
Life's most important
Questions. That is for
Another time, another day.
I stand searching for the
Best shot to set up my
Next shot. I look up,
And her eyes lock on mine.
She smiles wide, the biggest
Smile I've ever seen,
Besides the one I received
From another woman
The day before, and a different
Woman the day before that.

I smile back, acknowledging
Her, and then focus only
On my game.  She vanishes
Into the restroom, hoping
I pursue.  Instead, I play on
And move on - to the next ball,
Until I clear the table.  Patience
Is a virtue, and I walk away
Feeling superior in every way.
  - Just a lie I hold inside -

No words escaped, and I leave
Alone again, and will head back
Another day. Shoot around, waste
Time - alone.  Reclusion my
Self-punishment, my self doubt.
